In our country, we know the Spanish province of Navarre mainly for the festival of San Fermín: the Running of the Bulls, which takes place once a year in Pamplona. However, the small Navarre also has many beautiful things to offer. In the north you will find the second largest beech and fir forest in Europe (after the Black Forest), and in the Bardenas Reales semi-desert, in the south, some of the filming of Game of Thrones took place.

Navarre is located in the far north of Spain and borders France. It is separated from France by the Navarrese Pyrenees, an area of green valleys, high peaks and mountain villages where time has stood still. Once an independent and powerful kingdom, Navarre has a rich history. It is a land of extremes: the north has a micro-climate, and towards the south it gets dryer. Two pilgrim routes cross the region, one of which leads to Santiago de Compostela.
The city of Pamplona is the lively heart of the province and there is always something going on in the streets. The Basque language and culture originated in Navarre and, as in the Basque Country, Pamplona is full of pintxos bars, where you can also taste the excellent wines of Navarre, which borders the Rioja region. The former capital, Olite, is a truly authentic Navarrese town: there is a castle, ancient streets, a town wall and fiestas almost every weekend in summer.
