A hot summer’s day on the Danube calls for a dip! From Camping Regensburg, it’s just a short walk to the river, where the babbling water and green banks create a relaxed holiday atmosphere. Nearby is a sheltered cove where you can take a refreshing dip on hot days. Afterwards, find a spot by the water’s edge and watch the boats go by with your children. A lovely spot to simply do nothing at all. For an afternoon of swimming fun, the Westbad public swimming pool is just 500 metres from the campsite. Here, your children can brave the waves in the large indoor wave pool or whizz down the slide, which is over 100 metres long. The youngest water lovers can splash about happily in the children’s pool. Is the sun shining? Then the outdoor pool is also a great attraction, where a wide slide and a separate play pool provide even more fun.

Whilst you enjoy a leisurely breakfast beneath the tall trees, your children are already making plans for the day. Camping Regensburg is a lovely base for families who love outdoor activities. The leafy grounds are right next to the Donaupark, a vast recreational area where your children will have plenty of space to burn off their energy. Head into the park together and discover the adventure playground. Here, young explorers can clamber over the play equipment and cool off at the water playground on hot days. Teenagers will also find plenty to keep them challenged here. They can practise their latest tricks in the skate park or meet up for a lively game of football or volleyball. And all of this just a stone’s throw from the campsite! Cycling enthusiasts are also in for a treat here. The famous Danube Cycle Path runs right past the site and invites you to enjoy lovely rides along the water. Follow the cycle path between the green banks, discover new spots along the way and enjoy the view over the river.

Behind the green banks of the Danube lies a city full of fascinating stories. From Camping Regensburg, it takes about 15 minutes to cycle to the historic city centre. You can also reach the centre by bus in around a quarter of an hour. Stroll through winding streets, admire the imposing St Peter’s Cathedral and discover charming squares with colourful façades. The centuries-old city centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and as you stroll through it, you’ll soon understand why. A visit to the famous Stone Bridge is a must. From this medieval bridge, you can look out over the Danube and the historic buildings lining the river. Continue your walk to Stadtamhof, where pastel-coloured houses and cosy terraces characterise the streetscape. Settle down for a drink whilst your children enjoy a well-deserved ice cream. There are also wonderful discoveries to be made outside the city. Take a boat trip on the Danube or cycle towards Donaustauf, about 12 kilometres from Regensburg. Here stands the impressive Walhalla, a monument strongly reminiscent of a Greek temple. Climb the steps and enjoy the sweeping views over the river together. Fancy an active family outing? In Regensburg, your children can let off steam at the Jump-O-Mania indoor trampoline park. Or challenge each other to a round of 3D blacklight mini-golf, where glowing colours create a unique playing experience.
